Zenkoji temple

Zenkoji temple (national treasure)

Zenkoji Temple has been loved by people since ancient times, with people saying that you should visit Zenkoji Temple at least once in your life.
It is said that if you walk through the darkness under the main hall and touch the key, you will be transported to the Pure Land of Paradise. It is a masterpiece of Buddhist architecture from the mid-Edo period and is the largest in eastern Japan.
Ueda Castle

Ueda Castle

This flat castle was built in 1583 by Masayuki Sanada, a former vassal of the Kai Takeda clan. It is famous for the Battle of Ueda, in which Masayuki Sanada repulsed two attacks by the Tokugawa forces. During the Edo period (1603-1867), the Ueda clan's government office was located here, and after the Sanada clan was transferred to Matsudai in Shinano Province, the Sengoku clan entered the castle and rebuilt Ueda Castle from the ruins to its present appearance.

Togakushi Shrine

Togakushi Shrine

Togakushi Shrine is a hot spot as a power spot. Togakushi, a sacred mountain, and consists of five shrines: Okusha, Naka-sha, Hogo-sha, Kutouryu-sha, and Hinomiko-sha, which have a history of more than 2,000 years since its foundation.
Chisikiji temple

Chisikiji temple

The main hall, "Omido," was built in 1573. It is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The standing image of the eleven-faced Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) enshrined in the Omido Hall dates from the late Heian period and is designated as a National Important Cultural Property of Japan. The temple is also known as "Ajisai-dera" (hydrangea temple) because of the hydrangea flowers that bloom in the temple grounds from the end of June to July.
Kaikoen

Kaikoen

Kaikoen is the site of Komoro Castle, which was also called Hakutsuru Castle or Drunken Moon Castle. The large plaque of "Kaikoen" written by Prince Iesato Tokugawa hanging on the third gate is famous. Komoro Castle is a rare example in Japan of a castle that is lower than the castle town. It was built using valleys and hills made of volcanic ash from Mount Asama, and the collapsible cliffs, which do not use water, make it a solid fortress.
Kaikoen Garden has been selected as one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan, and is crowded with visitors from all over Japan when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. It is also famous for its autumn foliage in fall.

Agri-Park Apricot Village

The apricot village is said to have 100,000 apricots at a glance. Visitors can enjoy viewing apricot blossoms, which turn pink all over from early April every year. Agri-Park is a theme park-type tourist farm where you can enjoy tropical orchards and fruit picking. Visitors can enjoy strawberry picking (from early December to June) and cactus gardening. There are also souvenir shops and a food park featuring local products.
Chausuyama Zoo

Chausuyama Zoo

This is the largest zoo in Nagano Prefecture, making use of the natural terrain, where visitors can meet 350 animals of about 65 species, including red pandas and wombats. The zoo also holds many events and other activities based on the theme of interacting with animals.
Karuizawa Toy Kingdom

Karuizawa Toy Kingdom

Karuizawa Toy Kingdom is a "toy theme park" where you can see, touch, and experience toys. In addition to a total of 11 toy rooms, the facility offers a variety of attractions such as the Giant Ferris Wheel, which can be enjoyed by children as young as 0 years old, as well as about 20 types of athletic facilities and mountain stream fishing.

The Togakushi Ninpo Museum, which is housed in a reconstructed private home of a wealthy farmer built entirely of zelkova, exhibits 500 ninja tools, explanations of the Togakushi Ninpo, 200 photo panels of actual techniques, and a wide variety of other ninpo materials. The "Ninja Karakuri Yashiki" is a ninja mansion full of gimmicks that can be enjoyed by both children and the elderly. There is also a "Shuriken Dojo" where visitors can experience shuriken throwing.

Kids Ninja Village is a ninja-themed amusement park located in Togakushi, Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture! There are many attractions such as shuriken throwing and athletic activities for both children and adults to experience ninja! Ninja outfits are also available for rent, making the experience of pretending to be a ninja a popular one.

Madarao Plateau

The elevation is 1,000 meters above sea level, and the average temperature in August is 21 degrees Celsius! A mountain field with a spectacular view where everyone can feel at home. Climb Mt. Madarao and you will be rewarded with a spectacular view of Lake Nojiri below and the Sea of Japan in the distance. In summer, it is a summer resort with a refreshing cool breeze, in winter, it is a ski resort blessed with abundant snowfall of 3 to 4 meters, and in green season, it is a place to enjoy various activities such as outdoor sports, trekking, and nature experience. It is a healing mountain field that welcomes visitors at any time of the year.

Roadside station "Raiden walnut village"

Located in Tomi-shi, Nagano Prefecture, this roadside station was named after the hometown of "Raiden Tameemon", a sumo wrestler of the Edo period (1603-1868), as well as for its famous "Shinano walnuts". The station offers a wide range of local products such as Shinshu vegetables grown in Nagano, fruits, local sake, walnuts, soba noodles, pickled nozawana, Shinshu miso, and souvenirs from local confectionery shops. Walnut soft serve ice cream, available only at this service area, is very popular.
